Group travel planning is a coordination disaster. Sootcase set out to fix it with GenAI: collaborative itineraries that adapt to everyone's constraints. We led architecture and delivery from concept to synchronized web + mobile launch.

01 · THE PROBLEM

Where they were stuck.

Existing travel planners are single-user. Group travel — where six friends coordinate flights, hotels, activities, and budget across continents — is mostly Slack threads, half-finished spreadsheets, and dropped balls. The team wanted to ship the first GenAI-powered collaborative travel planner, on web AND mobile, AND keep them in sync.

02 · OUR APPROACH

How we built it.

  • 01Real-time collaborative state model — every member's contribution streams into a shared itinerary via WebSocket fan-out
  • 02GenAI planner agent grounded in actual flight + hotel + activity data, with budget, time, and accessibility constraints surfaced explicitly in prompts
  • 03Web (Next.js) + mobile (React Native) share a typed API contract; itinerary edits propagate to all surfaces within a second
  • 04Conflict resolution at the activity level: if two members propose conflicting times, the planner surfaces the trade-off rather than picking silently
  • 05Eval suite for the planner: 'does the itinerary actually fit the constraints?' measured per archetype before each model release
